WHAT TO EXPECT
Welcome to Living Acts Church. We are thankful that you are enquiring into what we are about and what God is doing in our church. Our church meets at 10:00 am every Sunday morning at the Dance N’ Drill building at 4010 S. Donnybrook, Tyler. We meet in the very back of the building in one of the dance rooms on the left. If you do come late there should be someone at the door for the first 15 minutes of service to direct you. Please sign in at our welcome table so we can know who you are and contact you for more info about our church. Don’t worry we won’t spam you or drive you crazy with a hundred calls and emails.
Our dress is casual. We want you to feel comfortable and at home in our meetings. Children are welcome to stay for the duration of the meeting but need to be supervised. We do have a children’s church that meets after worship for those 4 & under.
As you enter our place of worship we purposefully have the room designed so everyone can focus and worship God more effectively and without distraction. Offerings and tithes are encouraged to be given at any time during the service and canisters are placed at the back and on both sides of the room.
Our worship style may range from contemporary to classical. The goal is to be blended in style and biblical in content. We do feel that in our worship of God it is not the style of the music, but the heart that matters so creativity in worship is encouraged.
HOW WE PRACTICE SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Our church takes a “continuist” position on the spiritual gifts. We are not your “T.V.- style” charismatics, but because we have no reasonable or biblical reason to ignore Paul’s teaching on this issue, we aim at creating an environment where the gifts may “earnestly be desired”. We also have a worship moderator who works in our service to allow - “...a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation” (1 Cor. 14:26), to build up the body and encourage or exhort one another. We do not allow extemporaneous expression because we seek to do all things in order (14:40) and also realize that all things should be judged or weighed first (14:29). We realize that for many the unbiblical practice of spiritual gifts has caused some to be reluctant to attend any church that does this. We understand the fears, but our aim is to be biblical in all things and seek to provide a place that remains open and active, while at the same time orderly and God-honoring.
OUR AIM IN PREACHING
Our goal in preaching is mainly to glorify God and point the believer to Christ. Every sermon has the goal of exciting the believer to a more intimate relationship with Christ and convicting the unbeliever of his need of him. We go very deep into God’s word and do so expositionally. As people see the awesome God of the scriptures we pray that every week they can stand amazed at his awesome and wondrous nature and better understand themselves, their neighbor and the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.
